1981 900SS switchgear

I’m currently restoring my 1981 900SS and I’ve found that the indicator switch, in the left-hand switch cluster, has seized and will not slide left or right. I have tried the usual methods, soaking it in release fluid for days, etc. but to no avail. The indicator switch can be removed from the cluster, so could be replaced, but these switch clusters seem all but unobtainable, now. I really want to retain the original, rather than replace with some generic offering. Any ideas, out there?

Hi Mark, the Nippon Denso switches used on the 81 900SS were used in quite a few bikes of that era. So you should be able to find something from a jap bike that you could either use or use for spares. Some examples online:

Thank you Rob, that’s extremely useful.

Aye Mark,
Mix up a solution of 60% diesel fuel and 40% paraffin and immerse the switch cluster into the fluid, leave for several days occasionally agitating the liquid and if that disna work then it’s an outsource job I’m afraid. Diluted diesel is one of the best freeing agents out, apart from the heat of an Oxy - acetylene torch which is not always practical.

Hi, thanks for the tip. It took some working at, but it worked a treat and the switch is clicking left and right, just as it should. I’ve checked the continuity, too and it’s doing what it should.
