The one thing that racked me off when I first got my new 01 SS ie was the fact that you couldn’t have the bike running in neutral with the prop stand down. As to do so the side stand switch would chop the earth for the ECU.
On another forum I found a work round that allows the motor to run with the stand down, but only in neutral. The solution is to run a cable from the neutral light switch in the back of the gearbox to the side stand switch. This cable has, in its running length, a diode to prevent a false earth being sent from the side stand switch to the neutral switch and thus illuminating the neutral light on the dash.
If anyone is interested in the details I will dig them out and post them. This system mod has served me faithfully for the last 25 years. It also prevents inadvertently starting the bike whilst it’s in gear with the stand down.
