Hi,
A few years ago now, I had a dodgy Starter on my ST2. The button would sometimes need two or three prods before any activity from below. Sometimes rocking the bike in gear was necessary. The engine was turned over without probs once the starter woke up. The armature had become carboned up and at the time this was a well known fault. The answer was to clean up the armature surface with scotchbrite and run a junior hacksaw blade carefully down the grooves between the armature segments to clean away the carbon.
Are brand new replacement starter motors still prone to this or has the factory sorted this now? My bike needs doing again.
Many thanks,
Mark.
